Wellness Coaching - How to separate the wheat from the chaff?!

Wellness Coaching has definitely become a saturated market & the latest trendy industry over the past 5 years.

But what does it actually mean, why & when should you engage a Wellness Coach, what are the benefits and how to you separate the wheat from the chaff?

What is Wellness Coaching?

Wellness Coaching is the ability to combine key philosophy's, principles and practices from a cross section of disciplines to curate positive change in someone's life.

A good Wellness Coach works with a client to remove barriers and close the gap between their aspirations & goals helping to make them a reality.

Wellness Coaching focuses on establishing life balance & healthy rituals with the aim to support clients to achieve a sense of calm, regain control and become a happier version of themselves.

As the demands of life increase and social expectations rise the need to rest, refocus and reflect has never been more important. Good Wellness Coaches will have a series of Tools & Techniques to help clients overcome obstacles and learn how to better manage stressors.

What isn't it?

  • Diet or meal plan

  • Exercise program

  • Magic pill or one size fits all solution

  • Psychologist, counsellor, nutritionist or personal trainer

What are the benefits?

  • Re-connect to who you are, your core values & strengths

  • Articulate your personal brand & help visualize your aspirations

  • Improve your physical and mental well-being

  • Create sustainable change through simple daily practices

  • Harmonise outer expectations with inner goals

  • Achieve balance and calm through everyday life

How to find a Wellness Coach and what traits to look for.

  1. Qualifications - What qualifications and accreditations do they have? Is it from a reputable and credible provider, or a sub-par online one day course?

  2. Experience - How many years' experience do they have as a Wellness Coach? Be sure that they don't just call out how many years they have been 'working' in general - they are not the same thing.

  3. Domains of Expertise - What is their background prior to becoming a Wellness Coach and what life experience can they bring to the conversations? Do they have a cross section of industry experience to draw on and lived examples of how to overcome barriers?

Key Takeaways

  • Partner with an accredited Wellness Coach to make your dreams, goals and aspirations a reality.

  • A level of 'Master Coaching' can only be obtained from hundreds of hours of real world sessions. Simply stating the number of 'years' since completing a course, does not equate to hours of practice.

  • Stay away from the self-diagnosed expert or the ones that have 'cured' themselves and think that gives them credibility to advise others.

  • Always interview your Coach prior to making a commitment. Your time & money should be invested in a credible Coach who connects with you and your goals, as well as compliments your style. Results will only come in a safe and supportive environment.
